Deadmen Tell No Tales
First week of 200nl is over.
Playing well, and running rather decent.
Had a serious rush at the start (25% flop set and getting payed off, ran 18BB/100 for 1K hands or so)
Ofcourse the usual swongs and shit, but i'm happy with my play. + the uncomfortable feeling is gone which was my biggest boundry.
Played a few seshes while I mixed in some 100nl tables, conclusion = I ran like shite on 100nl, 5BI under EV over only 1.7K hands. But i'm embracing it.
Goal is still that i can blow 2K @ 200nl before i will move down, let's hope it doesn't have to come to this.

The game dynamics are quite different at 200nl tho, much more agro and a lot more 3 betting, but i was expecting that. But i've also spotted some regs that are just plane spewy and over agro which is pretty nice if you have Position on them, and you can tarp them or make em value town themselves.
Still have to look into adjusting my Blind defending range, Still have some leaks there. But more on this if i have a better idear of regs 3-bet  and shoving ranges.
The funnyest fact still is that a lot of regs are clueless 200BB+ deep. On hindsight i should have looked into this more when i was still grinding 100nl, could have gained me a lot more than i did.

Finally got  to start reading Elements of poker, I'm only still at the first chapter but i've ran into a couple of topics that sound quite familiar to me. Been trying them out and so far so good.
For instance: Long seshes, It seems that my games starts to deteriorate once i play longer then 2h. I used to keep on grinding 4/5h at a time (if i had the chance, because this a verry rare) because i knew that once i took a brake i would have a hard time to start grinding again. And because i don't have that much time to grind, i should use it optimaly.
So since a couple of days, my seshes don't last longer that 1.5hours, take a half our brake, get my mind completely of of poker and start again.
The idear behind this is to minimize C-game play, which is the main focus of the book. So I'm sure i can plug some more leaks reading it.

Stats so far:
As you can see, i'm really going for Quality over Quantity. I'm guessing to total the month around 20Kish
Happy with the stats, altho it seems i'm not second barreling enough, but i'll have a better view on this at the end of the month because i don't really recal any good spots to second barrel (semi) Bluff.
More of this next week, or later.

Puke out.

Moving on up
As of November first, my fresh start at 200nl has begun.
I can't complain at all, It's going quite well. Altough the usual uncomfortable feeling is still there, Mostly because of the more Agro dynamic and ofcourse the pshycological money boundry.
Only logged  2K hands tho, due to life/work issues and due to that i'm 4 instead of 6 tabling. Which will still last for quite some time, probably the entire month, maybe with an acception on Fridays and Saturday nights ( For obvious reasons ldo).
Once I go back to 6 tabling I will have a 1hour 2 tabling sesh every 2 weeks tho. Reason: to say it in Wiltontilt's words : " You will be so borred our of your mind during that hour, that you start looking for certain spots where you can take advantage of your opponents, it will increase your edge and prevent autopilot mode"
But i still have to soak up a loooot the comming weeks, my trusty note pad and pen have been polished and a fresh leaf has been turned because i'm gonna be using them a shitload this month for sure.

October went quite ok, got back in the groove, but nothing really spectacular happend.
2 graphs due me being a retard and fucking up my DB, and having to start a new one, So this is a post + past crash graph, add em up and you'll see the profit.

Goals for November:
- Share the wealth and buy my girlfriend a balla B-day present.
- Start reading  Tommy Angelo's Elements of Poker
- Start  to develop an edge at 200nl
- Sweat, baby, Sweat
- The rebirth of the Analyst inside me
- Ship it (even if it's 10 cents i'm happy, transision month etc etc)
- Go pay a visit to the Sales Rep @ Vandenborre and kick his fucking ass, because my TV still hasn't arived but it's payed for, and they won't return my mails / calls

No volume goals this month due to 4 tabling, so i have no idear what to expect.

More ramblings after the weekend ( oh it will be looooong and sweeeeet)
Cheers

Unforseen return
And we're back.
I know I said I was done with blogging but I can't help myself . I lasted longer than I suspected tho.
No real specific reason to get back, but i wanted to share some stuff and some small brags.

First of all, some poker related stuff.
This has to be said, and repeated a numerous amount of times: DC is gold.
Started watching a vid before each sesh, and it's paying off. It  also prevents the "I just woke up, let's grind semi awake" fase. Because that was pretty -EV for me. It also keeps the knowledge fresh in my head.
I'm gonna have to recomend Late night coaching with Joe Tall, it's a great series.

Thanks to mdm13's (the man is a genious btw) Ghost vids i've opend up my game quite a bit. I even caught myself running 28/26/4 over 250 hands on a table a couple of times and making quite a decent profit. But overal it's leaning towards 22/18 and it suits me quite well.
Here are this months stats:
My W$WSF is still too low for my liking but the sample is small. It normaly is 41.2 over my total 170K hands @ 100nl.
And as you can see there is no BB/100 or profit visable, but that's for my own good. I caught myself playing worse after I saw how much is was up/down. So from this month forward I will only look at my  exact profit at the end of the month. Ofcourse I have a glance at my Unibet balance once in a while but it still leaves you in the dark if you don't know the exact numbers from before / during the sesh.

Now some other stuff.
My Buddy Bynenz was at the Irish poker festival this week, and he brought me back a sick Jameson Hip flask, which is pretty freakin awesome. To bad he diden't cash but he's gonna make it big in donkaments for sure.
Still bumed I coulden't join them, but I coulden't get any days off from work. Let luck have it I got sick and was home from work the majority of the time they were there. So 2 beats.

Got some interesting things comming up in the next couple of weeks / months.
Planning on giving 200NL another go in November. Mined it like a madmann the last week or so and it occured to me that a lot more retards / crappy nits play there then I first had the impression of.
Also gonna start sweating (finally) more often, I know I said I would a couple of times already, but this time i'm verry serious about it. The dodgyness of my internet connection (thank you crappy telenet modems) has decreased and i'm gonna buy a new decent headset somewhere this week. So beware, I will be harasing some of you the comming weeks.

random BBV.

Brag: Gonna buy myself a Full HD plasma as an early B-day present
Brag: I'm gonna throw a sick birthday party in December, don't know the details yet
Brag: I wil only be working 2 out of the 4 Sunday nights a month, atleast untill the end of the year
Brag: I finally managed to get out of my 10h sleep a day routine and i'm functioning on 7hours of sleep now
Beat: I ran out of coffee saturday night, and all the stores are closed here on sunday.
Beat: My ensurance company won't cover the Mustang I had an eye on if I park it in the underground garage of my appartment  because of flood risk.
Variance: I save 2K a year if I don't buy it untill I move to another place.

Last but not least.
This might sound cheezy to some of you but it's quite important to me since I own 2 cats.
If you ever consider getting a cat (they kick ass, might I add) get one here:  Poezen opvang Limburg instead of a petstore. The cats placed there were eighter abandoned by there owners or were wandering in the streets or some other horible things. And they deserve a good home.
Since I already own 2, I can't really get a third because my place isn't big enough. So instead I became a foster parent (peter) of a cat there  which was already waiting for a good home for a long time.
The ppl there can use all the support they need for the good work they are doing. So if any of you ballas have any spare change donate them a small deposit, they will apreciate it a lot.

That's all for now.
Updates will follow shortly

Argh
Been grinding on everest now for about 2 weeks.
The extreme fish pond I hoped to find has seemingly dried up.
French, German and Dutch Tags have infested the place. So that translates in a 3 bet fest, lots of tables but no real great ones. With the exception of the fiew who are great but after an hour get packed with regulars after the fish have been cleaned out.
The software sucks cock, No rakeback, room in $,  no extreme quantity of fish who would make up for the BB/100 lost in RB = Me going back to Unibet.

So my plans are pretty concrete now: Get to 200NL before the end of the year.
If that means getting a coach, i'll get a coach.
If that means eat, sleep, breath poker  to increase my seemingly missing edge: Then I will
If that means running nak.... Well you catch my drift.

I've also put 3/4 of my roll on a 4% savings acount. No use in keeping over 10K online when you don't "need" it online and let it earn some intrest.
And it'll stay there until I need to redeposit due to some huge swing or something.

So this will probably be my last update until a long time, If something special happens i'll post.
But otherwise it'll  Probably be December or something. I'm completely done with wasting time on browsing and other shit, which includes this. It's not like anyone will be missing my rants and whines and crappy play.
So, Grind on

A legend has left us

It's only been a week, but i can safely say, August sucks balls so far.
A lot of stuff happened. But worst of all, a friend of mine, whom I haven't seen in quite a while passed away on August the 1st.
I knew him from back in the day when i was still very active in the Grindcore / noise scene.

Tony PD you will be missed very much mate.
You were, and will be one of the nicest, most straight forward, no-nonsence, I don't give a shit person I will probably ever know.
Rest in peace mate. Blè

19 April 1973 - 1 August 2008

He used to do the vocals in Permanent Death, and Mince away in Agathocles.  2 Of Belgiums Legends in the underground Mince / Noise scene.

50K update, halfway now.
Ugh, what a week.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The day shift sucks ass.
1More week of this bullshit and I'll be back on the night shift  tho.
A lot of stuff happend, I might elaborate on that later, but i have a lot of things to think through first.
Also promised an update on the 50K hands on Monday but that didn't happen due to lack of time and working too long all week.
Pokerwise it's been a real slow week, didn't have time and was too tired to play basicly so only got in 800 hands all week.

Back to the 50K : running 18/15/4  for 22K hands now. Wanted it to be a bit looser but it's working out fine.
W$WSF is @ 41.5 I'm aiming for something more in the 42/43 region tho, but i'm not gonna force anything.
It's a pretty big improvement on the 38 it used to be.
Also found out that picking up small uncontested pots is just as profitable as stealing the blinds (i'm stating the obvious here, but I never used to care much about these 2/3BB pots)
Well timed  bluffs also have contributed to the  rise in W$WSF. It takes some getting used to but  it's great for the winrate if executed wisely.
So i'm halfway now and have a 2.5bb/100 winrate, and as already stated i'm aiming for 3.5. It's @ 2.5 mainly because of a couple of 4/5BI swings at the start. But i drasticly improved my game the past month so it should work out fine.
So as soon as i'm back on my nightshift I can get back in my normal grind patern and i'll be able to put in a serious amount of hands instead of the measely  15K i put in this month.

I'd also like to thank Riverlex for his suggestion on grinding for a greater goal , i have a list  of stuff above my screen now , and it's really motivational. Just a small glance at it and i'm in the mood to rip up the tables.

A graph and pics and other shizzle will be posted when I finished those 50K hands  (which will hopefully be somewhere half August) because posting it now would be stupid of the small sample.

Practice what you preach
Ah vacation is over.
Today, well actually Monday  will be  my last day off. I Must say 3 weeks of "rest" was pretty good.
Got a lot of work done around the house which I should have done ages ago, got my mindset straight on a couple of different levels. So overall it was quite the productive time off from work.

So after I taught a lot of shit trough, poker related and other stuff.  I realised  some things which helped my game a lot. Pretty common things which people seem to forget, or know but don't use or stick by. I Believe woolly thinking is the right term.
So as a reminder to myself, and maybe to help out some people who read this I have decided to make a list of stuff and put it up here.

- If you have a plan for a hand, stick to it
A pretty common example: you decide to float the flop and bet or raise any turn. But the turn card isn't what you wanted it to be, so you chicken out and check behind.
Or, your plan is to bet/fold the river if a certain draw completes, but you end up calling anyway eventho you said you wouldn't and you know you're beat a high % of the time.
Both examples are pretty big leaks imo because you lose quite some value in both cases. It' isn't simple but it's stuff you just have to hammer in.
Imagine this: you have to write yourself a check at the end of the year for all the money you have lost by calling in spots where you know you shouldn't, or spots where you know you should have bet but all of the sudden got cold feet. Gets you thinking doesn't it?

- Don't be result orientated

This should be viewed in the broadest sense. Thus including  Not watching PT,HEM or whatever during your play to see how much your up or down.
Having the results or loss/profit of your current session influence your game is another awefull leak. Seeing stuff writen in the forum like : "If i was down for the session i would call, but if i was up i would probably fold" is pretty awefull. By saying this you admit to yourself that your result orientated but don't seem to care about it.

- Set realistic goals of which you know you're capable of and can stick to
I always have to chuckle when i see people post a certain profit goal for the month "I need to have shipped 2.5K or i'll be pissed" . How can you set a goal for something you have no control over?
Also, don't say stuff like "review my hands after each session" if you know you're too lazy or have a lack of time to do it and eventualy don't review anything at all anymore.
Review your hands every 10K hands or another set mark instead. Instead of grinding that day take your time and fully concentrate on reviewing your hands, which will turn out to be a lot more profitable than not caring about your game at all.
If you set unrealistic goals, or goals which are too far fetched or out of your league you'll only end up disapointing yourself or trying too hard, which both are pretty -EV.  If you keep it simple and achievable you'll have a reason to be proud of yourself more often which keeps you motivated and helps you maintain your A game.

- Don't grind when you have other stuff to do, or when you don't feel like it but the games are always fishy at that time
You'll feel more relaxed and get less whining from your better half or whomever if you take care of stuff you know need to be done before you grind. It makes you feel better about yourself aswell. Also don't force yourself to grind if you would rather be doing something else.

- Study, study and study some more
Pretty self explanitory, your A game isn't gonna fall out of the sky and the games are always changing. Be 1 step ahead of the competion.

These are just some of the points that came to light after talking to certain people, stuff i have heard in vids or read somewhere, and which I i noticed when reviewing hands, so i don't take credit for this. But they helped my mindset and my game a lot.
See, taking a break for a couple of days and setting things straight can be pretty beneficial.

I'll update on my progress on my 50K hands @ 100nl for 3.5bb/100  on Monday. But so far it's going pretty damn good.
Cheers,

Puke out.

Slacking progress and a rant.
Here's an update on the past week
It's mostly about the day to day crap i've done the past week, so for people looking for high poker entertainment value can safely zone out now.

I haven't been especially productive or anything but the lazy bum factor in my life has decreased quite a bit.
Had a big list (for my standards) with stuff to do over my 3 weeks off, and only 1 thing remains but is basicly the biggest pain in the ass.
I've even manned-up and cleaned the in and outside of my car which is a big achievement for me, knowing that it was probably the first time in 1.5 years.
My spare bedroom also is less of a dump for useless crap now.
So my plan to be more useful in life, is kind of coming together, lets estimate: still 40% slacker. So i'm making progress.

More interesting facts now.
I threw a BBQ last Friday which was fun.  Fried up the meat to perfection even if I say so myself.
No serious drunkaments tho, besides my Girlfriend who got pretty wasted on wine which led to some very entertain discussions about domestic violence etc. We had a good laugh.
Saturday we had a to attend a mandatory birthday party of one of my mates girlfriends, which was a snoozefest basicly. I don't like the chick and she doesn't like us. It's all a big scam from her to keep up apearances etc. But we managed to get some good laughs.
The rest of the time i was bassicly doing fuck all, enjoying the sunshine when it still was present and that's about it.

On a side note, i just got back from getting a haircut. Which i had postponed for way to long ( had long hair for 6 years until jan 2007 so it takes some getting used to the whole "getting a haircut" ordeal) and for the first time in 2 years  the chick diden't fuck up my sideburns which is quite the revelation.
Usualy she starts chopping away at them when i haven't asked for it and the convo usualy goes something like this.

Snip, snip
me: "aah F.... you shouldn't have done that"
she: "oh sorry, i didn't know you don"t want them trimmed"
me:  "well, you didn't ask before going at it"
she: " sorry again, but i've already took a piece off this side so i might aswell do the other one "
me: " sigh, sure"

I don't get that tbh, you go in there for a haircut, not a facial hair massacre. If i want them fucked up i'll go to an incompotent barber.
But this time she didn't even touch them, which is nice.

To most people this whole sideburn rant will sound awfully strange. I'm not vein at all about most things. But don't fuck up my sideburns, for some weird reason i take a lot of pride in them.

So after 90% of you have declared me insane i'll continue with something else.
Plans for the rest of the week:
On Wednesday we're gonna have our annual camping trip at the local lake. Which as always will be freakin awesome. Me and Bynens are gonna check out our usual camping spot in about half an hour to make sure it didn't turn into a swamp. A lot of entertaining story's will come from this trip. I'm sure of it.
I was planning to go to Motörhead in Zottegem this Friday but the gig is sold out and i was to late to get my hands on a ticket, which sucks hard i was really looking forward to it.

As this post is getting way to long, i'll update on more poker related stuff tomorow or later this week.
I'll leave you guys with a clip that really cracked me up this morning, hadn't seen it in a long time and is simply pure gold imo. (to bad i can't find to original from family guy without the animation on top, but the dialog is the same and it kills)  Enjoy:

Look what i stumbled uppon
I've always been a big fan of muscle cars, the 1968 Mustang Fastback has been on top of my wanted list for a looong time already.
4 years ago  I almost bought a '76 Opel manta GT , but it was sold before i could make my final offer.
Now today i have found a 1970 Mustang Boss 320 V8  in awesome shape, and that for only 15K.
If i can get my hands on this puppy it'll be one of my dreams come true.
And so far, it looks very promising.
This is the car in question:

Now, the thing that's holding me back: I don't have a garage.
I don't mind leaving my wheelbarow excuse of a car outside but, no hair on my body is even considering leaving this beauty outside of my place at night.
I've looked around to rent a garage somewhere in the neighbourhood, but the closest i could find is Hasselt and that's 25km away. Which sucks imo.
I'm hoping to find a sollution soon, because chances are big it'll be sold soon for that price.
Any tips are welcome btw.
26/6/2008
Jailbreak baby!
1 more night of work and I'll finally have my well deserved 3 weeks of rest.
Damn i've been looking forward to this vacation a lot, not that i'm going anywhere but just the fact that i don't have to work for 3 weeks, because it's been since the 6th of January that I had a day off.
Don't have any particular plans to grind a lot, or do some funky stuff, just want to spend a lot of days on a nice terrace somewhere with some good liquor and the occasional BBQ.
This also gives me a chance to restore from my exhaustion / working to much / long / hard to past months.
Not gonna bore you ladies with the details so the cliff notes are : got a new boss 3 months ago or something, he's fucking up badly. And since i'm the boss on the nightshift I have to clean up his mess, make sure everything runs smoothly in our shift etc etc + fix all the broken machinery the new guys from the day shift leave behind.
On top of that i have to work on some huge projects for a new factory hall we're opening somewhere by the end of 2008, Had to make the programs for some specific machine only used by us and have to build em + test them. Try and fit that in 8h of work eh...
So lately, well actualy the past month i've had some serious trouble with getting out of bed on time due to pure exhaustion. But i've found a good acticle to help me get out the "oh i'll turn a round an sleep for another 10 mins......Oh snap it turned out to be 2 hours" cycle. If you're interested, you can find it  here

Enough boring stuff about me, let's talk poker.
I've finaly reached my goal of 100K hands on €100NL, it took me a lot longer than expected, but i've had a small burnout due to the shitty months i've had + lack of time.

As you can see i've run super hot at the start but like shite for the rest of the time. And failed to reach my goal of 3.5bb/100 over this sample (if someone posts the "you're doing it wrong" pic, it woulden't surprise me). I have my roll for 200NL (10k baby! finally) but i'm gonna grind another 50K hands at 100Nl to try and reach my goal again + to improve my game some more.

Also after reading lex's post about going pro i've realised that i'm missing out a lot. i've seen him pass me in moving up and in skill. And a lot of that is due to solid grinding. A lot of respect for the man, because he is a really nice guy and a good player. And i wish him a lot of succes.

So it got me thinking, i study my game a lot and spend a lot of time grinding, but obviously not enough. I need to start and eliminate my dead time behind the pc, browsing crap, watching youtube out of boredome and shit and spend it studying more and grinding more. And ofcourse do something about that "unable to get up in time" problem.
Ofcourse Theory > Practice but a lot of Theory and too little Practice ain't good eighter.
So starting August there will be a new era for me: Kill the slacker in me, and use my free time to the fullest. let's hope i can stick to it.

I'll keep you guys posted in the mean while.

Puke out.

Scarred & Undefeated

As May has ended June brings us a new dawn.

All Euro's, all 100NL  Ldo,
Did some experiments with high risk/reward plays and a spew project to get my W$WSF up, and they both worked out pretty decent, learned a lot last month, and that's what counts.
Speaking about learning, i picked up a few nice pointers from leggo again, That site is freakin gold. Even canceled my CR subscription because they were lacking content the past few months imo.
Also did a lot of work and research to open up my game more, it's paying off and working great so far.
In May I ran 18/16/4 and for June so far i'm @  19/16/3.5  and i must say I'm enjoying myself a lot more than my nitty 16/14 at the start of 2008 .

Been running sick hot for the past 3K ish hands tho, feels great after my huge downswing in March and following break even stretch for 60K hands.
Altho that sickly bad run put a lot of stuff in perspective and i learned a shitload from it, so far (let's knock on wood) i've stopped being a spew monkey when on tilt, and haven't tilted in a while which is hopefull.
I'm trying to get it completely out of my system, because as they say "poker is a game of small edges" which is true, and not tilting is indeed an extra edge you get on your opponents if they do tilt.

Anyhow, the goal is set for 30/35K hands again this month, so far i'm a little behind . But that's mostly because i'm having connection problems. It pisses me off tho because each time I get disconnected I get out of the zone, and if i was sitting deepstacked i loose my spot on the table if i'm not fast enough, which is a serious pain in the ass.

None the less I have a few beautys for you ladies to enjoy:

New toy and keeping my promises
And we're back,

Even tho I'm encountering some serious variance I'm happy about my play, no degenerate monkey life tilt yet and i seem to embrace the variance. I find myself using the sentences "i'll grind it back" and "good for him" so i'm atleast making some progress in the mental department.  To quote Hillger "Bad beats should be a poker players best friend"  and in a sick way, he is right.

It's the 18th now, and the total for this month is 16K hands so i'm running a little behind scedual but i'll  make up for it. So the prospects for the 30-35K goal is looking good, and it's the last month of 60% Rakeback so I might aswell squeeze as much out of it as I can.

After reading something in the vein of  "Blind steals are out, and light 3/4bet's are where the money is at these days" . So i figured it would do some research about it, and gradually implement it in my game. And I must say it's paying off. It's a big risk / reward play but finding the right spots can win you some decent pots uncontested + if you get caught it's great for your image. I'll elaborate more about this later.

I've also bought HEM a couple of days ago, and i'm kinda disapointed, all the fancy options and shizzle are nice but fuck does that Hud suck donkey balls. I know that's it's personal, because a lot of ppl are happy with it but i guess i'm a difficult person then.
PT3 was also released the 15th, and it looks very promising that it will take less than a month before Microgaming will be supported. So i'm looking forward to it.

On a side note, the Syncmaster 245b FINNALY arrived at the store last Wednesday, took em 2,5 weeks longer than expected, and all that hassle because of a stupid change in the order number. But it's here, looks good and i'm vérry pleased with it.

I'll post a graph /stats and some interesting hands tomorrow, now it's relax time.
Time for some leggo vids and enjoying a  fine bottle of Ballantine's Pure Malt. oooh yeeaaaaaaa
(This blog lacks pics so i'll highten the entertainment value by sharing this beauty, mouthwatering....)

Anyways, good luck to the pokernet members who still are in the UPO,  I hope you all cash and offcourse for one of you to take it down, It looks promising.

Back to the grind, with money on my mind
As planned i'm hitting the tables hard again.
5K hands in 2.5 days ain't bad for my standards. And i must say i'm happy about my play. My attempt to steal blinds should go up a bit tho, but i'm working on it. Table doesn't always alow it tho.

Also started 6 tabling again which had a very good effect on my game. For some reason, subconsious boredom or something i suffered from a sort of fancy play syndrome when i was 4 tabling, 4th lvl thinking and stuff when it was a pretty straight forward situation etc.

Had a pretty shitty start of the month tho, a bunch of 2 /3 outers in 2K hands and some bad plays by me. Luckily the bad plays only cost me about 2BI, but they are noted and extra attention is being payed to those leaks.

Graph looks pretty shitty now but if i keep playing like i am now i'll make a decent profit in the long run. Also the goal of 30/35K hands is set for this month, i'm psyched about having a couple of 4/5h sessions again.

After hearing a lot of good comments about Leggopoker i took out a 6 month subscription, and i must say i like the format. I've only seen a couple of vids so far but i like the fact that they pause and give deeper analysis about key hands. Instead of the standard game flow on Cardrunners.

On a side note, a friend gave me a copy of COD 4, 2 words: wow, awesome. I've been playing cod2 multiplayer for quite some time now but obviously COD4 blows it away. Too bad the single player is so short, i finished it in 4 hours or something. But there are some great missions in there.

Now i'm off to watch some family guy, season 6 is quite disapointing but there are some brilliant scetches in there.  And tonight it's back to the grind, i'll give another stats update the next 5 K hands which hopefully will be soon.

Puke, out.

Almost...
May, which will be the new starting point for the grinder in me.
Didn't play much in April, and it'll stay that way I guess. So far i have a total of a whopping 11K hands which is the least i have played since august i think. Ah but fuck it, I had a lot to do the last 2 weeks and I had a lot of fun.

The dishwasher has arrived! yeey.
Picked it up yesterday with Bynens, it was the absolute perfect weather to dragg that piece of crap up the stairs, both of us sweating like pigs. I cut myself several times on the machine, and to top it off the morons at the store left water in the hoses, which was a awesome surprise when we were dragging it out of my car.
So now i have a nice new dishwasher, with blood all over it and the hoses for the water supply and drainage are too short but atleast it's in my apartment.

And the 24" has been ordered at our (very) local computer store, hopefully it will arrive this week. But with the first and second of May being a holiday it's doubtful.

As for today, it was fishy at 100nl around 1pm so i sat myself down for a 3hour session, went reasonably well. Made 1 extremely bogus play which i'm kicking myself for, and maybe played 1 or 2 hands a bit too passive but for the rest i was trying to make the most EV decisions. And it went well so i'm pretty happy about my play. And can't wait till May comes so i can get back onto the grind.

Once i have the 24" i'm also planning on making some vid's of a couple of my sessions and let the ppl at pokernet judge my play. I'm sure i can learn a lot from it so it's a solid plan.

Now it's almost 9.30PM so i should get ready for a vérry short week at work.
Puke out.

Iron Fist
Lol delayaments.
So yea I promisted to update last monday but stuff came inbetween, and I only played 1K ish hands this week so it isn't worth mentioning. Besides the fact that a second downswing after a short break even period of 6K hands is god damn soul destroying. Good bye motivation!
So, what's the conclusion of all this?

a) I suck and just had a lucky 160K hands streak before this happend
b) I'm truely running bad and playing bad at the same time
c) running shit in combination of former leaks creeping back in my game.

I hope that I can rule out option "a" ,but doubts creep into your mind easely  when you're going trough a 30K losing streak. So i'll put my money on a combination of option b + c. So now it's time to step up, lose my fancy play syndrome, analyze my game and put the poker mindset to good use. And prove to the world a bum like me can be a force to be reckoned with. And if shit keeps hitting the fan i'm gonna find myself a coach, but more on that later.

As for motivation, I've been withdrawing half of my rakeback every month since January. So unibet has been paying my rent so far in 2008.
But now it's time to buy myself a couple of gifts. Since i'm a lazy cunt, and that i hate washing the dishes and because i've made promises, i'm finally gonna step up and buy myself a dishwasher.
At first i diden't want to because i'm still semi traumatised from dragging everything that it's my place up to the second floor  via the stairs. But fuck it one last time wont kill me, atleast  i hope so.... So i'm going shopping for that on saturday.
Second, it's time for a new second screen. I'm very happy with my Syncmaster 223BW but i'm going for something bigger now. The old 19" Benq is making room for Syncmaster 245B. Oh yea!
So if i can break my bad sleeping habit which i have developed over the past week i'll go and pick it up tomorrow or Wednesday .
And i've reached the 50K Vip points mark at unibet and haven't decided yet if i'm gonna put them to use. The first option was the PS3 but they have taken it out of the vipshop. So now i'm still undecided.

All of this niceness is gonna be supplied by taking 1K of my roll. Which will still be verry healthy for 100NL but still, it should also have a positive affect on my motivation + both are +EV purchases imo.

So this week i'll watch a shitload of instructional video's, post a lot of hands and read a lot.

Oh yea and since music is still a big part of my life i'm gonna share a song here every week that had some sort of impact on me.
First off Thin Lizzy performing Massacre live in 1978. You might know em from songs like Whiskey In the Jar and The boys are back in town. But this one is one of the best they ever made imo.

Plans, goals, variance, advice.. what it do?

After not being able to log in here for a week or so i feel the need to spew some of my toughts again.

First off i'm a moron, I tried logging in here the past week with the wrong password and then went on to complain that i coulden't logg in....
So let me unveil some of my plans now.

  • Play 1 k hands a day (and more in the weekends)
  • Finish the poker mindset
  • Don't play when the tables suck
  • fix my leaks
  • Stick to a set profit goal (long term)
  • Start with some sweat sessions / keep on "coaching" Bynens
  • Nessecities first, poker second.

I'll try and explain the tought process behind each one of these.
First off the 1K hands a day is just a standard I set each month but fail to achieve, I just have too much shit to do. But it keeps me motivated to keep a avarage of 25/30K hands a month (which is quite decent for someone who works full time and has to look after himself imo)

If i can give any advice to any of you, then it's gonna be this: Read the poker mindset! That book is solid gold. They advertise it as "the second best poker book you will ever read" and by god they are right. I've learned a lot from it, and i'm only half way yet. My vision on downswings and attitude towards my mindset at the table have changed a lot, in the good sence that is.

This is quite obvious but i'm gonna repeat it to myself, don't play when every damn table has 3 good regulars on it or when the table vpip is below 25% (PAhud wise not software wise).
But I came up with a plan in case the tables blow horse cock. I'm gonna open up and watch the tables with the regulars on it which i have to most issues with. The decent LAGs in other words.
I'm gonna study their game so i have a better insight on when to play back at them or when/in which situation they will start to play back at me. Because i had some troubles with this is the past and is one of my biggest leaks.

Leak fixing, standard. I'll ellaborate more on this in my next post.

My "long" term profit goal (100K-150K hands) is set at 3.5bb/100 @ 100NL. I'ts a healthy win rate for those stakes imo. I'm gonna try and stick to it and view anything above it as extra.

I've taken Bynens under my wing since a couple of weeks now. I know him for many many years already and he started to take poker more serious the last month or so. So the least i can do is help him out and share my knowledge with him. + the railing / skyping is helping my game aswell. So it's a win win situation.
I'm also gonna try and find someone who is better than me who i can rail/sweat with, i'll get myself to do this starting monday or so.

Since i'm lazy by nature it happens quite a lot that the dirty dishes get stacked in my kitchen for 4/5 days and that i have to spend 2hours or so washing up the 6th day. which is a serious pain in the ass. So i'm gonna work on that and other related stuff starting today.

That was enough of my self motivational blabber. Now the hard part, sticking to it.

Expect a new post with April updates sunday or monday.

Puke out.

decent seshhhhh

After the horror that is called March I ran decent / hot again in the third short session i played this month. Only 500 hands but i still have to get used to the new unibet software and the fact that i can't play 6 tables anymore due to their "bring tables to the top" option that keeps happening even when i turn it off. It tilts me too much if I 6 table because i tend to take a lot of notes on players, so when the tables pop up when i'm in the middle of typing a note or typing a bet it get's interupted and messes up my game flow.

Anyhow, untill it gets fixed i'm 4/5 tabling so i'm playing pretty low volume sessions compared to when I 6 table but I rather make a decent profit in the right mind state instead of a 4 hour 6 tabling session (like before the software upgrade) with tilting because of that bug.

I'm rather happy with my play, and i was obviously running hot.

One interesting hand came up tho:

Both villains were total calling stations who get agro when they hit a piece of the board. So with the draw heavyness of the board, i'm betting for protection and value on the flop en turn because i'm 90% sure I have the best hand here. And because the river is another total blank I figured i would get the most value by checking and inducing a bluff by one of the villains. So i pulled the "stack a donk line" even with a marginal holding like TP no kicker. But i think the board was ideal for this and that i would have the best hand in this spot against these villains 90% of the time and that they would never pay me off if i would bet the river. Comments are obviously welcome.

Here are my stats for the short session. Have been pretty loose from the SB but i had a lot of decent hands in the sb + it's a really small sample obviously.

First live event

Got back a while ago from my first live donkament in Namur.

Had a great time playing, I'm not a big fan / suck at tournaments tho. But the "social factor" of it all apealed to me. It was nice to put some faces on the nicks aswell. And I met some interessting people in persone who i wanted to speak to for a while. Had a good time with Smetje, Prop, Dislexsik, Riverlex and Jeankenissan.

Now to get to the tournament itself. Started off on table 11 seat 9, Dislexsik 2 seats to my right and Riverlex to my emidiate left so I can't exactly say my possition was great whilst I was wedged in between 2 verry solid players. A lot of banter, chit chat and interesting conversations on the table which basicly made the event for me. We also had a lot of misdeals but no-one really made a problem out of it.

At the start I got some decent hands. JJ in mid position when blinds were 25/50. I raise to 150 and get 1 caller from UTG+1. Flop comes 5T2 rainbow, I c-bet and get check raised. I assumed he would never take that line with a flopped set because he would lose value on such a dry board, so i figured he put me on a big ace that missed the board or that he had a reasonable T. Turn was a blank and he fired again, I called. He checked to me on the blank river which I checked behind. And villain diden't want to show his hand so my first assumption of him putting me on a big ace that missed was right.

Next hand i played, i look down UTG at AA, make the raise to 150(blinds still at 25/50)  and get 3 bet by a villain in late position, and his raise got called by the CO. I 4 bet and got called by the CO after he was calculating his odds out loud. Flop came Qhigh with a FD, i cbet and villain folds pretty quick.

After that i got pretty card dead for a pretty long period, the only reasonable playable hands i got where UTG or UTG+1 so i had to fold em. After a while i got TT in the CO, my raise gets called by the SB, flop J82 with a heart draw. I c-bet and get called, turn completes the flush, villain checks to me  and i check behind, river a K. Villain checks again and i make a half pot bet ment to look like a value bet for a slowplayed flush. Because i figured he could lay down a medium J to this bet and no way that he would check a flush to me twice. I took down the pot.

Card dead again for a long time, 4 ppl have already been eliminated from our table, and the floor came over to anounce the break and that the tables would be split up. At this time i only had about 2.5K checks left with the blinds at 200-400. It wasn't looking good.

I went to check out how Smetje was doing to find out that he got busted out with AQ vs AK AI PF, so i headed to the bar to get my free drink so i could wash down the awefull taste of the worst coffee i ever drank, man that was horrible. They should really get there machine checked out. I was disapointed to find out that the only whiskey they could offer me was J&B which is the second worst one after Johnny walker's red label with it's synthetic taste. But fuck it, it's free. Expected a wider variaty of choice tho, hoping to get some first grade Ballantine's or Glen fiddish like in HC. But beggers can't be choosers.

After the break i find out that i'm 2 seats to the right of Bear, who was the chip leader at the time with over 10K in checks. 2 hands later on my new table, i find J9s in the SB when it's folded to me, the BB hapily hands over his BB after my raise. About 2 hands later i look down at JJ in MP, I Raise. the BB pushes for 4k ish and i call to find out that i'm completely dominated by his Aces. Board didn't bring any help and i went out around the 35th place.

After that i was railing prop for a bit and after a while Smetje and Jeanke nissan hit the 2-2 cash tables and i joined them rather fast. I freakin hate full ring and slow play so it wasnt the ideal situation, but it was quite interesting to play a live cash game besides to occasional home game. Astonished at the rake they take tho. For every half hour we had to pay 4, and every pot above 20 was raked for 2 if i'm not mistaken. No real interesting hands, KQ and KJ in late position with about 6 of limpers but my raise took it down. and AQs utg+2, i raise and get 1 caller but my c-bet takes it down after a lot of hesitation of villain on the KT6 flop. Still managed to get a €24 profit after an hour of play so not all that bad.

After the hour of cash gaming i went home, and my first live experiance in a casino (besides the HC s&g crapshoot in december last year) was over. And i agree with Dislexsik : "If all the live cash games were 6max, then I would play a lot more in casino's"

Overall a good, fun day and the chance to meet some interesting ppl.

how it all started

Warning: You're not gonna find a succes story about how I turned $0 into thousands or how I made 1 deposit of $20 and never looked back.

I'll start by introducing myself: I'm 22 and live on my appartment in Paal (limburg). My girlfriend and I are together for 6 years and counting. I work fulltime as a industrial maintenance electrician / machine developer / machine programmer on the nightshift (10PM-6AM) at a small factory in Heusden-Zolder (Artstone). I have 2  insane cats and i'm still living in the 80's as far as it comes to music. I try and play as much poker as possible between going to work entertaining my Girlfriend and keeping my house clean and feeding myself.

Now the part that has something to do with poker:

It all started back in July 2006, we wanted to give poker a try and decided to play some 5 card draw without any notion of the rules / hand rankings what so ever. Had a good time without even knowing what the hell we were doing. A couple of days later i saw one of the online tourney on nbc at night, and they were playing hold 'em. So I suggested we gave that a try. A couple days later i heard about pokerheaven, made a $50 deposit and started playing. And went bust after 3 weeks or something. Made a couple more deposits on there and kept going bust for 3 times i think.

After all that I discovered PCB and started to read about strategy's and all that stuff. So i gave it another try and depsited 300 on some prima skin which name I forgot. Started grinding 10nl FR and went busto again after about 15K hands. So it was clear i was doing something Seriously wrong.

I gave poker a break after the 4th busto and started the casino bonus whores guide to turn $100 into a $1000  which i completed and now had a nice 1K ish roll. So i picked up poker again, and after a discion with Dislexsik  about why FR and not 6max i started to play 6 max instead of full ring. Which led me to ITH and PSO where i cleared some bonusses and the ocasional black jack bonus whoring still went on untill I lost about  1K on the roulette wheel "It can't be black 9 times in a row". Which basicly halved my roll.

After that fuck up, i swore i would never go near a roulette wheel again. And i finaly started to take poker serious. We now are about a year after i started playing and i made a deposit on FT to go and grind out the bonus which went with ups and down and i ended break even in the end.

Here comes to kick start to my poker succes: "the fiewer ppl that know about Cardrunners to better" is what i heard PieterM say. And by god he is right. All the books that i have red finaly started to make sence after seeing it in action. The whole CR experiance turned me from a break even player into a winning one.

So i finaly desided to give unibet a try because it was always mentioned as a real fish pond. And they were right. Started playing there in September 2007 and i still call it my home. Grinded up from 20NL to 100NL which is where I still grind now.

So that was it, and as you can see not every poker story is a succesfull one and just because you go bust at the start doesn't mean you don't have what it takes.

I will try and make weekly updates here about my progress / downfall.

Puke out.
